Helping Up Mission (HUM), a nonprofit organization serving Baltimore's low-income and underserved residents since 1885, used NMTC financing to develop the House of Freedom, a 131,557 sq. ft., seven-story facility serving women and children struggling with poverty, homelessness, and addiction. The House of Freedom provides a comprehensive one-year residential substance abuse recovery program, including emergency overnight shelter, counseling, workforce development, healthcare, and childcare.
Located in the Jonestown neighborhood of Baltimore, the facility includes: a recovery center; an emergency overnight shelter; a commercial kitchen and dining hall; a clothing and toiletry distribution center; a primary, dental and mental health facility; classrooms and a workforce development and education center; counseling rooms; recreational space, and administrative offices.
