North Florida School of Special Education (NFSSE) serves students with intellectual and developmental differences. NFSSE provides essential academic, vocational and social skills education designed to address a variety of disabilities in structured curricula that progressively culminates in a young adult’s preparation for self-sufficiency. NFSSE also delivers integrated on-site services that provide cognitive, physical, occupational therapy, and applied behavioral analysis to students.
NFSSE used NMTC financing to develop its 32,000 sq. ft. campus, significantly enhancing its ability to serve students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The project included a new educational facility, featuring classrooms, therapy rooms, a library, a fine arts complex, a full-sized gymnasium, and a commercial teaching kitchen, creating a more comprehensive, hands-on learning environment. Additionally, the school renovated 9,234 sq. ft. of existing space, modernizing instructional areas to support expanded vocational training and life skills development. The addition of an equine therapy facility allows students to engage in therapeutic horseback riding programs, further enriching their educational and emotional growth.
