Memphis Union Mission (MUM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness in Memphis, Tennessee through emergency shelter, recovery programs, and workforce development. To expand its impact, MUM used NMTC financing to support Phase 2 construction of the Opportunity Center, a 21,270 sq. ft. emergency shelter and workforce development hub. This expansion enhances stabilization services, housing support, and career training, ensuring a comprehensive pathway to self-sufficiency.
The shelter features 112 stabilizing beds, counseling offices, and a large community gathering space, providing a secure and supportive environment for individuals seeking recovery. Beyond emergency shelter, MUM’s holistic approach includes meals, clothing, life skills training, financial literacy classes, and employment readiness workshops, directly addressing the root causes of homelessness.
