SBCS (formerly South Bay Community Services) is a nonprofit deeply rooted in San Diego County, founded in 1971 to support vulnerable youth and families through community-driven care. It now delivers integrated, bilingual services through three core departments: Child Well-Being, Behavioral Health and Wellness, and Youth and Family Wellness.
To expand its impact, SBCS used NMTC financing to support the development of a comprehensive 61,000 sq. ft. social service hub in Chula Vista, increasing its capacity to serve the community by 20%. The facility includes 20,500 sq. ft. dedicated to essential services, including emergency housing, mental health counseling, financial literacy training, and specialized support for homeless youth and families. The center also features a 15,255 sq. ft. civic engagement space, offering community access for leadership training, educational workshops, and resident services. Key programs and service offerings being expanded as a result of the new facility include but are not limited to: family stabilization; child well-being, family violence and support services; children mental health services; in-home parent education; early intervention mental health services; and screening, assessment and intervention to prevent at-risk youth from involvement or further contact with the juvenile justice system.
