Fisk University, the oldest institution of higher learning in Nashville and one of the nation’s elite Historically Black Colleges and Universities, leveraged NMTC financing for the renovation of four historic buildings to enhance student services and academic programs. Buildings financed include: Roland Parrish Career Center, which houses Fisk’s career development and advancement resources; John R. Lewis Center for Social Justice (the Driscoll House), which houses Fisk’s Master’s Degree Program in Social Justice and its training center for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives; Boyd House which is home to Fisk’s Academic Excellence & Student Performance Center; and John Hope and Aurelia Franklin Library which received comprehensive technology enhancements including 3-D printing, robotics equipment, dedicated makerspace, and an e-sports arena designed not only for the student body but open to the surrounding community.
NMTC financing also enabled the University to complete technological and security upgrades throughout the campus. These improvements come at a crucial time, as Fisk has seen significant enrollment growth while many HBCUs face declining numbers. The modernized facilities strengthen Fisk's position as a leader in STEM education, career preparation, and social justice advocacy.
