Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Healthcare (MLKCH) is a private, non-profit, safety-net health system dedicated to serving South Los Angeles County, where residents face some of the worst health disparities in the nation. To meet the growing demand for emergency and behavioral health services, MLKCH utilized NMTC financing to support a major expansion of its critical care facilities.
This project includes the development of a new Acute Psychiatric Stabilization Unit, the expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department, and the completion of a state-of-the-art Cardiac Laboratory. These enhancements allow MLKCH to provide faster, more effective care for patients in crisis, including homeless individuals, behavioral health patients, and those in need of specialized cardiac treatment. By reducing unnecessary hospital transfers and increasing local access to life-saving interventions, MLKCH is improving long-term health outcomes in one of the country’s most underserved communities.
